It is no longer news that Mazi Nnamdi Kalu was arrested, and today arraigned by the Federal Government before Justice Binta Nyako, of the Federal High Court. It is equally no news he was remanded in DSS custody till the 26th of July, 2021.
Following the newsbreak, tougues are wagging. Shivers were sent the spines of many Igbos. It has been the talking point at every gathering. To say most Igbos are wearing moody, long and frowned looks since the news broke, is to say the least. As I write, some are still doubting the possibility of MNK’s arrest.
Having confirmed its truism, I elect to say the energy channeled in bemoaning MNK’s arrest is tactless, wasteful, and counter productive. It’s a reality dawn on all, and must be appreciated.
On the contrary, energy channeled to giving him a watertight defence and solidarity is most desirable at this point and should be mobilized.
According to Awolowo, “whatever come my way is my fortune”.
I’m sure MNK knew a day like this will come. This is his fate. He is very conscious of the possibility of his incarceration. I’m also sure his spirit is not broken, neither is he fidgeted to face his warrant.
Like him or hate him, MNK has made a global assertion. It is unarguable his sociometric rating ranks even higher than that of his captors.
I may not be MNK’s fan. But, I am not oblivious of his genuine concern against injustice and the crux of his agitation for a better, equal, justiceable and egalitarian Nigeria where the Igbos are not excluded in the scheme of governance, nor reduced to second class fiddles.
For those Igbos celebrating MNK’s arrest, you all need to check your DNA’s to confirm your paternity. Possibly, you might just be a product of mixed blood.
Bear in mind no freedom fighter is engrossed with personal liberty. MNK surrendering of his personal liberty for the cause he believes in, is for him not too precious an ornament to withhold.
His arrest and death is the ultimate price he has to pay. That, he is paying. A man who gave his parents and his household, what more can he not give?
MNK is not the first, neither will he be the last victim of a state sponsored persecution.
Our hands are crossed for the next line of action.
