Prof Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has stated that Igbo people stand to lose everything if they abandon their businesses and homes in the north.
In an exclusive interview with Sun Newspaper, the professor of bone marrow transplantation made the comment while answering questions. During the discussion, Prof Yusuf slammed the attitudes of Igbo leaders regarding the insecurity in the South East.
He said that the North has not sent anyone to the South because all of the Fulanis in the region had been expelled. He claims that instead of calling the perpetrators to order, the elders have remained silent. He stated that everyone is aware of those responsible for the killings in the South East, and that they must be stopped.
“The assassination of Northerners in the East by so-called unknown gunmen, as you all know, must come to an end.” He advised Igbo leaders to keep in mind the investments their people have made in the North, which if cancelled, will result in them losing money in the long run.
Their investments, he claims, were made feasible by the Northern, which offered a favorable atmosphere for them to thrive in.
“Thanks to the compassion and kindness of our people in the North, Igbo have far real estate and financial interests in the North,” he remarked. “If a governor decides to revoke or pass any law robbing Igbos of their real estate or financial investments, Igbos will be losers,” he continued.
Prof concluded by cautioning Igbos to trade cautiously, if for no other reason than to protect their investments in the North.
“The Igbo people must exercise extreme caution because they have so many investments and so many of them live in the north.”
