Many people are making plans for the 2023 General Elections, but with the prevailing security situation in the country today, one begs the question, would there be a Nigeria by 2023?
Our leaders, have demonstrated a total lack of genuine purpose in leadership, and have for the first time, since after the Nigeria/Biafra Civil War, divided Nigerians alone ethnic lines.
Today, the Yoruba man, the Igbo man, the Hausa/Fulani, have become more conscious of his indigenous identity, instead of his collective identity as a Nigerian.
This is a sign of failure of leadership. And while some still think about the next election, I worry if we’ll have a Nigeria to be elected into by 2023.
A lawmaker was calling on the Buhari administration, to invite Foreign mercenaries, to address the insecurity crisis within the country, but if you ask me, all we need is sincerity of purpose, to live together in peace and harmony, to address this problem, not foreign militia.
Even if we hire foreign militia, we will we send them after? IPOB or Igboho or Fulani herdsmen? You and I know who the mercenaries, if we hire them, would be sent after, and it won’t be the Fulani herdsmen who started this problem, and have brazenly continued to kill people, without Buhari condemning their actions.
Our leaders refuse to admit the problem facing Nigeria today, probably because those causing the problem are from the same tribe as those in power.
The Fulani herdsmen can go about with an AK-47 assault rifle, and kill the Yoruba, the Igbo, the Middle Belters, and they are not proscribed. But if the IPOB Man carries a placard, or a picture of the Biafran flag in his phone and he is gunned down and proscribed.
Now that doesn’t speak of fairness, and that is the first problem that must be addressed, to give everybody an equal sense of belonging in Nigeria, to start the healing process.
A few days ago, Gov. Ortom called on President Muhammadu Buhari, to sit up as the president of Nigeria, and address the security situation in the country. This was as he lamented the killing of his people, camped out at an IDP camp.
Ortom pointedly told Buhari to stop protecting the Fulani herdsmen, who are the worst menace Nigeria have ever faced in recent history, even worse than Boko Haram.
Today, the Fulani have caused agitations all over the country. The South East and South South are agitating, the South West are agitating, the Middle Belt are agitating, and Buhari is still silent over the matter, as Nigeria threatens to disintegrate under his watch.
In Imo State, shooting is going on every day, with lives lost carelessly. The govenror, Senator Hope Uzodinma had abandoned the people and fled to Abuja for his own safety, and the military have practically taken over the state.
A few days ago there was a massacre in Anambra, and even when it could be prevented, Buhari delayed in reaction, until those lives were lost. Does this not indicate that Buhari is in support of what is happening?
The people have lost faith in government, and suddenly, secessionist groups are becoming more acceptable to the people.
Why is Buhari silent? Why will the Army and Police arrest and kill people who are only trying to defend themselves, but never act to stop attacks from Fulani herdsmen? Is this a calculated plan, to distabilise the country, and to what end? Are we looking to see a genocide in the near future, with all these happenings?
If President Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t sit up now, and take charge of the country he swore to protect her citizens, those preparing for 2023 may just be wasting their time, as we may not have a Nigeria in 2023.
