The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, has stated that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former governor of Lagos State, SenatorBola Ahmed Tinubu, is under the commission’ s investigation.
The EFCC boss made the disclosure recently, during an interview he granted a national Daily.
The anti corruption agency Czar, revealed that the Commission can not yet arrest the former governor on allegations leveled against him, pointing out that even as Tinubu was being investigated by the commission, such matters took more than a day to be concluded.
Bawa pointed out that the Commission does not arrest people before investigations were concluded. he further revealed that the Commission was carrying out thousands of other investigations.
He pointed out that the EFCC does not declare a person guilty, pointing out that the Commission does not conduct media trial.
Recall that a former Managing Director of Alpha Beta LLP, Mr. Dapo Apara, had taken Senator Bola Tinubu to a Lagos State High Court to stop Tinubu from having control over the finances of the tax consulting firm.
Apara in a suit he filed through his legal counsel Ebun- Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) alleged that Tinubu was in charge of the firm which monitors and generates revenue on behalf of the Lagos State Government.
Tinubu have been on the spotlight for years over allegations of corruption, including a story of bullion vans, which have refused to be swept under the rug.
Tinubu is believed to have his eyes set on to replace General Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria President in 2023, and some of his loyalists, believe that the EFCC cases against him, might be plot to distract him and stop him from contesting.
Tinubu have been tight lipped about his aspirations. It is believed at some quarters, that Buhari may not want to hand over to him, and may still want power to remain in the North, as against agitation from the South for rotation of power.
