Okigwe Senate: INEC Shun Araraume, Issues COR to Ibezim

by Efizzy

The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, seems to have ignored the letter of protest sent to the Commission, by Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, and have issued the Certificate of Return to Mr. Frank Ibezim.

Araraume had written INEC, insisting that the Commission issues him with the Certificate of Return, instead of Mr. Frank Ibezim, stating that the Supreme Court ruling in Ibezim’s favour, did not affect his court victory from an Abuja High Court, presided over by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, which had earlier ordered INEC to issue Araraume with the Certificate of Return, to represent Okigwe zone in the Senate.

It has been over a year, since the death of the former Imo State Speaker of the State Assembly, and Senator that represented Okigwe zone, Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, and even before the December 5th, 2020 By-election, Araraume and Ibezim had been locked in legal combat, over who the authentic candidate of the party was.

By INEC’s action, it seems Araraume may have come to the end of the road, while Ibezim gets ready for fresh legal actions, as he faces the Peoples Democratic Party PDP candidate, Chief Emmanuel Okweulonu, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA candidate, Charles Onyirimba, at the tribunal, to determine who actually won the election.

More details later.
